Soham showed themselves to be in fine form with a comprehensive 9-1 victory over Stetchworth’s Ellesmere Centre in Division One of the Ely and District Table Tennis League.

Andrea Elia put Soham into early lead with a victory over Rob Boyce.

The scores were soon level with Jo Pettitt beating Tony Everitt.

That was as good it was to get for the Ellesmere Centre.

Elia and Everitt won their remaining singles, together with Clive Woollard, who completed a clean sweep of wins before Elia and Woollard teamed up to take the doubles.

Ely II visited Impington and started off with a bang when the Imps’ Aaron Self, previously unbeaten, went down to Andrew Maguire.

Unfortunately for Ely, that was to be their only point on the board as the Imps raced through the rest of the evening with maximums in the singles for Harvey Dinkele and Pierre Barnard, along with a doubles win for the pair and a brace of wins for Maguire.

In Division Two, two victories for Rob Pownall was not enough to prevent Ely IV losing 6-4 to Impington III, a scoreline that was matched when their second team claimed their first win of the season against Soham Comrades.

Fulbourn III defeated Ely III 10-0.

In Division Three, Stetchworth’s Ellesmere III Simon Johnson scored a maximum against Soham Comrades V, but apart from one more singles win from Nathan Johnson against Nicky Rule they scored no more to lose 6-4.

A maximum by Ely V’s Pedro Rocha along with two wins from Simon Bickers and one from Peter Salmon was enough for a 6-4 victory against visiting Countess.

Thomas Pizey scored a maximum, David Wiseman two and Annette Ginn two when Stetchworth’s Ellesmere II defeated Fulbourn VI by 8-2.
