Shingleton prevails in first Autumn sprint race

Newmarket Cycling and Triathlon Club hosted their first Autumn Sprint race held at the Newmarket Leisure Centre.

The overall winner was Matt Shingieton of West Suffolk Wheelers with an impressive time of 55 minutes and 25 seconds, closely followed by Newmarket team mates Gordon Irvine and Gareth Godfrey to take second and third place.

Eliot Bentley, who recently competed as part of a podium place team in a middle distance race, finished eighth in 1.04.36 with another fellow team mate, David Green, only a minute behind to win his age group in 1.05.20.

The youngest Newmarket athlete taking part, Jordan Black, took 13th overall winning his age group in 1.07.12, while Paul Tulk was 14th to take his age group in 1.08.32, and Malcom Daine-Smith won his age group in 1.10.09.

Meanwhile first season triathletes David Cordner and Ian Hawkins achieved personal best times of 1.09.18 and 1.16.30. Teammate Glen Fruish did well to finish in 1.16.53 after parting with his bike at a foot-down junction, while hot on his heels was Adam Irish 1.17.42 and Richard Gash 1.19.38.

The first lady home was Jess Hudson in a time of 1.10.30, followed by the first lady back for Newmarket, on her debut race Elizabeth Kerman in 1.15.16. Newmarket’s Gille Green also finished with a promising time of 1.29.46.
