Francesca Rust took part in her first-ever road race, with the Newmarket Cycling and Triathlon Club rider finishing in a respectable 23rd position.
The 27-year-old was one of 39 riders in the Ipswich Spring Scramble last month, and completed 37 miles of the course at an average of 21.4 miles per hour.
With the road race starting at Gosbeck Village Hall, Rust began strongly to get herself firmly in the front of the pack.
After falling behind in the middle of the second lap, Rust fought back to catch up with the frontrunners.
However, the climbs during the third lap took their toll on the Newmarket rider, and she dropped further down the order.
Rust dug deep in the final climb to finish one place behind the leading bunch, to claim 23rd place in the race.
n Challenging conditions faced the three Newmarket Cycling Club riders in the Eastern Counties Cycling Association 10-mile event two weeks ago.
Lee Dickinson (26 minutes and 18 seconds), Jon Wilson (22.40) and Bob Watson (21.19)were among the 85 entrants on the A11 course, which was won by CC Ashwell’s Justin Layne (19.30).
