Registration is now open for the very first MildenhallTri -
an Abbeycroft Leisure Triathlon Festival, in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care.

A partnership between Abbeycroft Leisure and Haversports, a community sports organisation which brings sporting events to the region, will see the inaugural MildenhallTri Festival held on August 28-29 this year.

The two-day event will feature a triathlon, duathlon and aquathlon at Mildenhall Swimming Pool and the Jubilee Field this summer.

The aquathlon will take place during the afternoon and evening of August 27, and is open to anyone aged eight and over with allocated start times to be handed out.

Distances of 50 to 600 metres will cover the swim section, followed by a run between 600m to 10 kilometres, with both depending on age.

The triathlon is set to start with a swim at 9am on August 28, which is followed by the cycle and the run at the Jubilee Field.

This event is split into two categories, with the Sprint consisting of a 300m swim, 22km cycle ride and a 5km run, while the Sprint+ features a 600m swim, 42km cycle ride and a 10km run.

The duathlon starts with a mass departure on the Jubilee Field at 9am on August 28, with the Sprint category including a 5km run, 22km cycle ride and a further 2.5km run.

More advanced athletes can choose the Sprint+ which features a 10km run, 42km cycle ride and a 5km run.

To compete in the Sprint you must be at least 15 years old, and in the Sprint+ you will need to be 17 or older.

Abbeycroft’s physical activity development manager, Ian Evans, said: “We are very excited about the development of this new fantastic event in Mildenhall.

“Together with Haversports we want to offer an event that both amateurs and experienced athletes can take part in and encourage more people to get active.”

Jack Tappin, founder and race director of Haversports, added: “Having launched athletics events in 2014 and seen how well received they were in Haverhill, it’s great to have the opportunity to help the sport grow further in Forest Heath.

“Triathlon is one of the country’s fastest growing sports, with the variety of distances and disciplines making it suitable for all ages and abilities, and I hope to see that reflected in those joining us for this event.”

Registration for the event is now open at www.haversports.com and there will also be a discount for Abbeycroft Leisure members. For more information email haverhalf@gmail.com
