Newmarket’s William Payne enjoyed a winning debut in the MG Trophy Championship after claiming two Class C victories at Donnington Park.
The 21-year-old, who has been racing karts since the age of nine, stepped up to the club championship, which began its 2016 season at the Leicestershire circuit earlier this month.
Payne was the quickest Class C driver in qualifying as the 4G Racing ace set a quick time of one minute and 44.851 seconds.
Fellow newcomer Gianni Picone took an early lead in the first race, before Payne went in front in lap six and held first place until the finish.
In lap eight, Payne broke the previous fastest lap record by 3.11 seconds with a time of 1:29:229.
The second race saw the Newmarket racer stamp his authority from the start to finish first again in the Class C category.
Payne rounded off a memorable weekend by beating his fastest lap record in lap nine, with a time of 1:26:563 knocking off a further 2.7 seconds.
