Joggers put on a show in Ekiden Relays event

Newmarket Joggers once again embraced the annual Ekiden Relays team event in Woodbridge.

The Joggers team of Paul Holley, Alex Cairns, Neville Clarke, Paul Francis, Robin Clifford and David Williams finished second in the Men’s Veteran class with a time of two hours, 39 minutes and eight seconds.

Newmarket’s Ladies’ Open team consisting of Grainne Brennan, Lisa Redman, Nicky Chapman, Meera Mahadevan, Karine Ferrin and Carolynn Anderson came sixth in 3.14.57.

Kevin Connolly, Clive Purbrook, Martyn Taylor, Joe Sadler, Sam Sadler and Gavin Moody had a solid performance for the Joggers’ Men’s Open team with a combined time of 2.47.57.

While a Mixed team consisting of Kathryn Lowrie, Helen Wass, Jim Withers, Pearl Fay, Brian Munns and Kate Warboys came in at 3.37.53.

Newmarket duo Nicky Chapman and Gráinne Ni Bhraonain ran the Cambridge Race for Life and both produced personal best as they crossed the line together in 42 minutes and 26 seconds.

Craig Sargent was the fastest Jogger in the St Ives 10km race, finishing in 49th with a time of 41.37.

Wass (52.04) claimed a new personal best to take second place in her category, while Pauline Green (52.12) finished third in her section.
