Lowestoft Railway 2
Newmarket kept their slim promotion hopes alive by thrashing their Lowestoft counterparts on home soil on Saturday.
Skipper Matthew Holden opted to shuffle his side for the game and it was one of the changes — Ben Atkinson on his first start — that broke the deadlock.
Josh Dawson made it 2-0, before leading goalscorer Ollie Wade found the top right hand corner.
There was still enough time left before the break for Dawson to claim his second goal after good work from Atkinson.
Those two players both scored again after the restart, which for Dawson sealed a hat-trick, while the visitors also nabbed themselves a couple of consolation strikes.
Newmarket, who sit third, finish their season next weekend against second-placed Harleston Magpies III, who have two games in hand (1.45pm).
n Newmarket III recorded their 13th and final win of the 2016/17 Division 7NE season by overcoming Cambridge South IV.

A penalty flick from Lydia Evans reduced the arrears, but it did not inspire a comeback ahead of Saturday’s home game against Cambridge City III (1pm).
