Mildenhall Fen Tigers have announced club press officer Phil Kirk will take over the role of assistant team manager for the 2016 season.
The Fen Tigers’ promoter Kevin Jolly has stepped down from the role alongside team manager Robert Henry, citing the need to focus more on matters off the track next year.
“I have felt for some time that I need to take more of a step back on meeting days,” Jolly said. “I need to concentrate more on the promoting role and speaking with supporters, rather than being so involved with Robert in the actual match itself.
“Speaking with Robert we both agreed that some support to him would be advantageous to us as a team, and that Phil would be the perfect fit.
“The three of us get on very well, and although Phil has no riding experience, he has been an experienced manager in his career and has a good understanding of the sport.”
Kirk was both shocked and honoured to have been approached for the role, and said: “To say I am honoured is an understatement.
“I spent many happy years in my youth cheering on Robert from the terraces and now have the chance to work alongside him, it is quite something to take in.
“Everyone who knows me knows what this club means to me and I hope I can help Robert and Kevin achieve further success for the Fen Tigers and our brilliant support.”
