Newmarket Cycling Club’s final event of the year was held on Moulton’s Primrose Hill, where 16 riders competed for the annual Hill Climb Championship trophy.

Durham University student Dominic Cordner was a comfortable winner, with a very impressive time of one minute and 47 seconds for the half mile ascent.

Karl Proctor came in second with a time of 1.52, while novice cyclist Michael Ritchie had an excellent debut to take third place in 1.56.

Last year’s winner Gary Hounsome (2.05) finished in fourth place just ahead of junior member Jordan Black who continues to impress.

In open events, Newmarket had a strong contingent of riders at the Eastern Counties Cycling Assocation 10, held on Saturday at Six Mile Bottom.

Jon Wilson was comfortably the fastest with a great new personal best of 20.51, while Hounsome (21.08) made a superb debut in open time trials.

Bob Watson was close behind in 21.10, while Francesca Rust, without the benefits of aerodynamic equipment and riding with her normal road bike, crossed the line in 25.56.
