The Newmarket Cycling Club mid-week time trial league is already looking to be a fascinating contest, with another excellent turnout of 27 riders at the hilly Ashley eight-mile event last Wednesday.

Young Lee Woodcock was in superb form, winning with a time of 19 minutes and 18 seconds, 14 seconds ahead of the very fast teenager, Max Sahota, riding for St Ives Cycle Club.

Gary Hounsome was the first of the Newmarket Club members competing in the league, coming in third overall with an excellent personal best for the course of 20.01, while his key rival for the title, Jon Wilson rode well for sixth place in 21.06.

Among the other riders, there were very impressive performances from the novice rider, Michael Ritchie, and the first lady, Bobbie Mack, while Malk Sahota rode his mountain bike for a time of 28.59.

The next event will be held at Ashley on the alternative, 11-mile loop, at 7pm on Wednesday (April 29), and the club is keen to welcome new competitors.
