Callum Wilkinson interrupted his winter training schedule to compete in the ELAN Indoor Meeting in Bratislava on Sunday.
The Moulton-based athlete, who broke his fourth British record last month by setting a new Under-20s 3km record of 11 minutes and 39.87 seconds, was back in action in the 5km race.
The 18-year-old, who was the youngest among a 12-man line up which included international medallists Matej Toth and Robert Heffernan, had to settle for a promising sixth-place finish in a personal best time of 19.39.69 with fellow Brit Tom Bosworth, winning the event in 18.54.89.
Wilkinson will now turn his focus back to sealing his berth at the World Junior Championships in Poland, in July.
“I have my first 10km in March which will be a qualifier for the World Championships,” he said.
“If I can replicate my 10km record time from last season then I will qualify, so that is the aim.”
