Benkaat Nero clocked the fastest winning time in the opening round heats of the Betfred Eclipse at Nottingham.
The March 2011 dog stopped the clock in heat six of the 500m Category One contest around the Colwick Park track on Monday in 29.56 seconds.
Benkaat Nero was not the only winner in the competition for trainer Mark Wallis with Blonde Razor taking the first heat.
Although not having any other winners on the night, the Lakenheath handler also saw Snappers Lad make it through to the semi-finals after finishing third in heat three.
The only dog from Wallis’ kennel that failed to progress into the next round was recent recruit Vanrooney, who trailed home last in heat two.
Aero Twizzle saw his comeback from a lengthy lay-off take another step in the right direction on Saturday after making all to win the S & D Bookmakers Sprint Trophy at Peterborough.
