Newmarket Avenue Bowls Club are through to the Inter Area Play-offs of the National Men’s Double Rink competition after beating Norfolk 42-27.
In the Ken Gilbert Cup Newmarket lost to Littleport in the quarter-finals, while Avenue set up a Roy Peacock semi-final with St Neots after seeing off Meldreth 60-41.
Newmarket’s men beat Meldreth 71-45 in the Gilbert Cup to set up a quarter-final with Ely Beet, while the Avenue’s annual game against the Dennyside raised £2,250 for The Newmarket Day Centre charity.
Jean Stephens retained her Two Wood Singles title after beating Ellen Falkner 16-11 in the final, but in the Triples event the holders Eileen Taylor, Margaret Southgate and Stephens lost out to Sue Alexander’s team.
Richard Catton kept hold of his Two Wood Singles title with a 16-5 victory over Jamie Baker, and also took home the Pairs trophy alongside Chris Chapman after a convincing 20-7 win against father-and-son duo Ben and Nigel Russell.
Chapman and Catton continued their good form to win with Barry Stephens in the Triples, seeing off Les Bradford’s team 14-12.
