Newmarket’s Angela Girgis battled through difficult weather conditions in the Half Outlaw Iron Man Triathlon to finish second in her age group.
The Newmarket Cycling and Triathlon Club athlete completed the 1900 metres swim in 35 minutes and 19 seconds, before starting the 56 mile circuit on the bike.
Girgis finished in three hours, one minute and 11 seconds, ahead of a half marathon to complete the triathlon.
Girgis posted a time of 1.43.37 for the marathon, with an overall time of 5.31.20 securing second spot in her age group.
A number of Newmarket triathletes took part in the Culford Sprint Triathlon. Mark Gibbs (59.55) was the first of the Newmarket competitors to finish, while Keith McCarthy (1.00.27), Eliot Bentley (1.02.24), Ian Storey (1.13.01) and Richard Gash (1.18.06) completed the course. Pearl Fay was the first lady home (1.22.28).
