Dream day for Ferguson as he lands a double at season’s end
Trainer John Ferguson was on red-hot form during the final meeting of the season at Cottenham on Saturday when landing a double.
Striking first for the Cowlinge handler was Earth Dream, who landed the Rossdales & Partners Men’s Open under Ferguson’s son James.
Taking up matters at the fourth last, the former Paul Nicholls-trained gelding galloped on well to the line to clinch a three-length success from the staying on Sorted.
Ferguson completed the double later on the card thanks to Dreamy George’s win in The Lettergold Plastics Ltd Intermediate contest.
There was an upset caused in the Trinity Foot & South Herts Beagles Ladies’ Open, which went the way of Hannah Weston-ridden 33-1 shot Qrackers.
The nine year old, a five-time winner under rules for Paul Nicholls, had just enough in reserve to hold off the late challenge from Working Title, to take the race by two lengths.
Lough Inch recorded a third straight success at the course after coming home by a distance in the opening Diana Hall Physiotherapy Members Race, while there was a second win in as many visits to the track for the Alex Edwards-ridden Forest Walker who landed The Henderson Global Investments Intermediate Race by six lengths from Bach To The Wall.
The Hardcastle Burton Open Maiden Race was divided due to a high entry.
In the opening division of the race the Will Hickman-ridden Almighty Bruce cruised to an easy 15-length success from Ballydailey.
The second division was a closer affair, with Yorkshire-based rider Jackie Coward getting up Alforone where it mattered to score by three lengths.
The final Isle Veterinary Group Four-Seven Year-old Open Maiden Race was also divided into two races.
The first opening division produced the closest finish of the day, with Prairie Hero and Tom Ellis taking the win by just a neck from Kazuri Kate and Claire Hart on board.
There was no doubting the winner of the second division, with the Mark Pitman-trained Goldmeister easing to a five-length victory to give jockey George Little a winner in just his second ride.
Following racing, Shropshire-based jockey Alex Edwards was declared Cottenham Course Champion. He was awarded his trophy by course owner Michael Gingell.
