DIVISION ONE NORTH
Soham Town Rangers 0
Heybridge Swifts 2
Soham Town Rangers saw their winless run stretch to 11 games following a 2-0 defeat at home to Heybridge Swifts at the weekend.
Player-manager Robbie Mason made one change to the side which started in the 1-1 draw away at Witham Town, with Leyton Orient loanee Charley Barker making his debut.
Soham goalkeeper Niall Conroy had to be alert to make a fine one-handed save to direct Adam Adeoye Yusuff’s header round the post, before Ryan Horne slid in to deflect another effort away from goal.
It was from the resultant corner that the Swifts opened the scoring, as Jack Cawley’s delivery in the 31st minute deceived everyone in the area and went straight in from the kick.
Heybridge doubled their lead six minutes later when Yusuff collected a loose ball and played it across the area, leaving Adam Bolle with an easy finish.
Dan Hobbs and Sam Mulready both had chances to pull a goal back, before at the other end, Mason cleared the ball off his own line and Conroy made saves to deny Bolle and Yusuff.
Soham found the net midway through the second half when Mason lobbed Heybridge’s Danny Sambridge from outside the area, but the goal was ruled out for a foul moments earlier.
The defeat leaves Soham in 21st place, just one place and four points above the Ryman League Division One North bottom three, ahead of a trip to AFC Hornchurch (3rd) this Saturday (3pm).
