Weather hits weekend football fixtures

Freezing weather has taken its toll on the weekend’s football fixture list with many matches falling foul of the wintery conditions.

Soham Town Rangers Ryman League Division One North clash with Romford at Julius Martin Lane, along with Mildenhall Town’s match against CRC at the R Costings Abbey Stadium and Newmarket Town’s Thurlow Nunn League Division One fixture with Great Yarmouth Town and the Town Ground, have all been postponed.

Although Ely City’s Fourth Round FA Vase clash at the Unwin Ground is still subject to a 4.45 pitch inspection this afternoon, officials at the club feel chances of the game going ahead are bleak.

“We have decided to hold a pitch inspection but I think it is more than likely the game will be off,” said Derek Oakey, match secretary.

Should the game be postponed the re-arranged fixture will take place on Tuesday. Kick-off 7.45pm.

*Football is not the only sport to be hit by the weather.

Tonight’s greyhound meeting at Mildenhall Stadium has also been abandoned due to the extreme conditions.
