NEW SIGNING: Dean Greygoose has added to his Mildenhall squad

Mildenhall Town manager Dean Greygoose has boosted his squad for the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division title run-in with the signing of Arran Mackay from Godmanchester Rovers.

Mackay, who turned down a move to higher-league Histon before Christmas, has proven to be a tricky customer for Mildenhall this season, having scored twice against them in a Godmanchester shirt.

In total, the new addition has fired in 16 goals this term, 14 of which have come in the league — only four players have scored more.

As well as playing at the top end of the pitch, Mackay will provide some versatility during his stint at Recreation Way.

He started the campaign playing in defence for Godmanchester, but was moved further forward following Chris Hyem’s appointment as manager in late October 2016.

“As soon as we spoke to Arran, he sounded positive at the prospect of joining us,” said Greygoose.

“He was quite impressed with us in the matches he played for Godmanchester and we obviously like what we saw from him.

“He knows where the back of the net is, but also gives us a decent option at the back.

“With Luke Butcher injured and Chris Bacon suspended, those are the two positions we have a bit of a void.

“He is only in his early 20s, so I see this very much as a long-term signing.”

Mackay could make his Mildenhall debut during tomorrow’s trip to Saffron Walden Town as Greygoose’s table-toppers bid to end a four-game winless run in the league.

However, he is cup-tied, meaning Mackay cannot feature in Mildenhall’s League Challenge Cup semi-final against Haverhill Rovers on Tuesday (7.45pm).
