Newmarket Town built on last week’s convincing victory over Haverhill Rovers with a hard-fought 2-2 draw away at Hadleigh United.

In a promising performance, Steve Holder and Ross Patterson got on the scoresheet to leave the Jockeys in seventh place in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division table.

Meanwhile divisional rivals Ely City remain firmly rooted to the foot of the table after they suffered a sixth straight defeat, going down to a 3-0 loss to Brantham Athletic. The result leaves Ely 17 points adrift of safety.

In Ryman League Division One North, Soham Town Rangers slipped to a third consecutive defeat as they lost 3-0 away at Tilbury.

In the Sky Bet Championship, Norwich City moved to within three points of leaders Bournemouth with a convincing 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest.

In a devastating 14-minute spell starting on the stroke of half time, goals from Jonny Howson, Cameron Jerome and a Wes Hoolahan had the Canaries well in control before Chris Burke struck a 76th minute consolation.

Elsewhere rivals Ipswich Town climbed into sixth place with a 1-0 victory away at promotion rivals Watford.

Substitute Richard Chaplow scored his first goal for the club with a dramatic 90th minute winner to seal a vital three points.
