Newmarket-based Laureate Community Primary School were the winners as Mildenhall’s Great Heath Primary School hosted the Forest Heath Under-10s Mini Soccer Festival.

In total 14 teams from 12 schools entered the competition on March 19, which was played in a seven-a-side format with each match lasting nine minutes.

Teams were split into three pools with the winners of each pool and the best placed runners-up qualifying for the semi-finals. All other teams took part in a play-off after the group stages to determine their final position.

The group winners were: Ditton Lodge, Laureate I and Exning I with St Mary’s (Mildenhall) qualifying as best runners-up. Each of the semi finals went to extra time and penalties, and it was Ditton Lodge and Laureate I that squeezed through to the final.

The final was a tense affair, and it was decided by one goal that went to Laureate I, enabling them to secure their first trophy of the year.
