It’s not every day a Norwich fan takes off (and doesn’t throw) their hat towards us Blues.
It hasn’t happened for a long, long time, since before I had a mobile to wind them up on, no less.
So, for your delight too, here’s what I received on Twitter on Saturday: ‘I’m almost pleased for Ipswich fans. You’ve been watching dross for years but MM is a good boss & got you going.
‘I think you can sustain it. Solid, consistent first XI, a goalscorer in form & top Champ manager.’
That made my weekend as much as Tommy Smith’s 83rd-minute winner against Watford at Portman Road on Saturday.
The ‘1-0 to the Tractor Boys’ was another solid performance against a very good team we usually stall against.
Just one defeat in 13, three wins in eight days and two points off the top.
However you look at it, and whoever you support, the Tractors keep ploughing up the table.
Have we enough fuel in the tank to sustain it? Will the harsh winter bite with injuries? Who knows...
I still feel we need another striker, if Mick is not prepared to use Jack Marriott.
Also, being highly critical, some pace in the side — as was pointed out in an enjoyable Saturday night Twitter #ITFC discussion — is the one area we are still really lacking in.
Jonny Williams’ injury, after being kicked out of another game, is a blow, but not the killer one it used to be.
Kevin Bru, along with Teddy Bishop, has been the latest midfield revelation.
One of the biggest gauges of progress though is seats on bums and the leap from 17,267 to 22,490 (even despite a ticket promotion) shows belief is growing fast on-and-off the pitch.
And did I mention a team in yellow lost?
