SUFFOLK SENIOR CUP

QUARTER-FINAL

Lakenheath 1

Beccles 0

Lakenheath remained on course to reach the semi-finals of the Suffolk Senior Cup for the first time since 2011 after edging out Beccles on Saturday.

Matt Hayden drew a fine save from visiting keeper Dan Cable in the early stages and, moments later, wasted a glorious chance to give his side the lead by firing wide.

Cable was again at his best to deny Lakenheath captain Matt Bellingham, before Ryan Sanders was kept out by a brilliant block on the line from a Beccles defender.

Heath did not have to wait long in the second half for the opening goal.

Hayden flicked the ball on to strike partner Luke Catchpole and he finished well into the far corner.

Controversy was soon to follow when Catchpole was sent off moments later after an altercation with Cable, but Heath remained in charge and progressed.

n Fordham produced a fine performance to end Red Lodge’s unbeaten run in NMC League Division 2B.

The hosts drew first blood in the 20th minute, but Fordham drew level on the stroke of half-time when a run from Graham Ford ended with Alex Theobald lashing a fine left-footed strike into the net.

Theobald netted his second after the interval and it was his magnificent 25-yarder that turned out to be the winner.

n Fordham Reserves defeated Isleham 4-0 in Division 5A with goals from Luke Schunmann, Sean Brighty, Liam Allgood and Chris Jones.

n Newmarket Town Under-16s Blue staged a second-half fightback to see off Walsham-le-Willows in the Eastern Alliance.

Town trailed 1-0 at the break, but strikes from Jordan Foster, Thomas Knowles, Harry Darling and Sam Chapman turned the match around.

n Isleham Girls Under-12s maintained their winning run with a 7-1 defeat of Isleham.

Talia Irvine (three), Amy Mclean (two), Evie Jakes and Libby Coleman scored.
