Mildenhall Town halted a four-match winless run by kicking off the new year in style with an emphatic victory away at FC Clacton on Saturday.

Town headed into the new year following back-to-back away defeats and void of any festive cheer after they slipped to losses at Hadleigh United and Norwich United.

However, those difficulties were put well and truly behind them at the Rush Green Bowl with a devastating first-half display as they wrapped up victory in the opening 45 minutes thanks in main to a hat-trick from Dan Brown.

The visitors started at a blistering pace and broke the deadlock in the first few minutes.

Mildenhall capitalised on a misplaced pass and, when the ball was fed in from the left, Brown had the simple task of slotting past goalkeeper Joe Fowler.

That momentum continued and Brown quickly doubled his tally when he reacted quickest to pounce on a mistake from custodian Fowler to score again.

The visitors refused to rest on their laurels and maintained their attacking intent with Green adding a spectacular third shortly after.

A deep cross from the right-hand side found the midfielder inside the area and he made no mistake, volleying the ball past Fowler from close range.

However, Town and Brown were not done just yet as the striker completed his impressive hat-trick before the break, finishing from close range to round off a rampant opening 45 minutes.

The second-half failed to match the excitement of the first and despite Mildenhall calling Fowler into action a number of times throughout the half, they could not add to their tally.
