The two teams to represent Forest Heath in the county Under-11 7v7 mini-football competition have been revealed.
After four weeks of competition across 35 matches, the winners of the boys event were finally crowned following the conclusion of the final fours event between the top two teams from both the Mildenhall and Newmarket divisions at Great Heath Primary School.
Both semi-finals were very close affairs, with each of them going to extra-time before being settled by a single goal.
Ultimately, St Mary’s Church of England Academy progressed to the final after defeating Newmarket’s Paddocks 1-0, while Great Heath were victorious against Laureate by the same scoreline.
The final was an open affair with the teams tied at 2-2 at half-time. However, St Mary’s ended up proving too strong, winning 4-2.
The girls’ tournament was the largest in Forest Heath to date with 11 schools competing for a chance to progress to the county finals.
After the group stages, semi-finals were staged between Moulton and Laureate, and Great Heath and Forest, from Brandon.
Moulton maintained their 100 per cent record by winning 1-0 against a strong Laureate side, while Great Heath were taken to penalties by Forest before emerging victorious.
The final saw some excellent football in which Moulton triumphed 2-0.
They will now join the boys team from St Mary’s at the county finals, which will take place at Westley Middle School, Bury St Edmunds, on Saturday, January 24.
