Karl’s searching for a star
KARL HOLMES CRICKET COACHING AT COLLEGE HEATH MIDDLE SCHOOL IN MILDENHALL.
SEARCHING for the sporting stars of tomorrow is firmly on the mind of cricketer Karl Holmes after setting up a series of new coaching courses.
Using his expert eye and in-depth knowledge of the sport, the 25 year old hopes to be able to pass on the tips of the trade to those just starting out in the game through his new venture Karl Holmes Cricket.
Despite only establishing the coaching programme earlier this month, the concept has been on the mind of the Mildenhall Cricket Club star for some time.
“It was something I first thought about when I was studying at university back in 2007,” said Holmes.
“I am very aware of the rise in popularity of cricket I want to provide as many opportunities to get people of all ages and abilities involved in cricket and progressing them on to a level they should be playing at.”
The first of his new courses to get up and running is the Kinda Cricket sessions aimed at those between four and seven years of age.
Taking place between 5pm and 6pm at College Heath Middle School every Monday, the sessions are made up of a range of hand to eye co-ordination games teaching youngsters the basics of the sport.
“The Kinda Cricket has taken off really well. It a great way of introducing children into the sport,” added Holmes.
“I am in talks with the Dome about getting a similar course in place to the one up and running at College Heath for those between eight to 15 after Easter.
“There are a couple of players who I am coaching in the next age bracket at the moment who possess the qualities to be good solid local club cricket players. Among them there are one or two I can see representing their age group at minor county level.”
Although his coaching primarily targets junior players the former Mildenhall College of Technology pupil also caries out one-to-one specialist coaching session and video analysis programmes.
“I am already working with both Mildenhall and Worlington Cricket Clubs to try and help feed young players into the clubs but the work does not stop there,” added Holmes.
“The coaching will hopefully be beneficial for adult teams to as it can really help boost morale and team spirit. Once things get nearer the season I expect things to really pick up.”
