FEN Tigers speedway boss Laurence Rogers has told riders that their jobs at Mildenhall are on the line after another crushing home defeat on Sunday.
In a heated get-together after Sunday's 35-58 defeat by Redcar Bears, Rogers, promoter Simon Barton and seven riders faced a barrage of questions and criticism from fans, many of whom are also club sponsors.

"This was a very poor day for Mildenhall Speedway," admitted Rogers. "We went into the clash against a makeshift Redcar with our hopes high but it turned out to be a total disaster.

"If things don't improve, we will be looking at team changes. The riders all know that they are riding for their places now.

"It is not acceptable that we are losing week in, week out and things cannot continue this way," he added.

Apologising to fans, promoter Barton said: "We have let our supporters down. Today was simply not good enough. It was a shocking performance with no fight whatsoever.

"The lads understand that today's performance will have an effect on their future at the club."

Sunday's match saw the return to West Row Stadium of former Tigers James Cockle and Brent Werner in a Redcar team missing two riders to the World Under-21 Championship semi-finals.

But the Bears quickly raced into an eight-point lead after the first two heats.

By heat six, the visitors had opened up a 20-point deficit with only captain Kaj Laukkanen and Dane Jan Graversen finishing ahead of any opposition rider.

A spirited ride by Mark Baseby in heat seven made Bears' star rider James Grieves work hard for the win and, with Robbie Kessler finishing third, the tide of 5-1s and 4-2s was temporarily halted.

With the contest effectively over, team boss Rogers tried to salvage some pride by sending out Graversen in the double-scoring black and white helmet.

The move paid off and Graversen led from start to finish to take Mildenhall's first heat win of the afternoon and six valuable points.
