Newmarket triathlete Juliet Vickery was in fine form at the weekend when successfully defending her national title at the British Championships in Northumberland.
Vickery, a member of the Cambridge Triathlon Club, won her age group completing the 1.5k open water swim, 40k bike and 10k run in 2:10:30, eight minutes ahead of her nearest age group rival. Overall she was the third woman home behind the winner Jill Parker (2:07:23).

"The bonus is that this is my second national title this year," said Vickery. "I also won the sprint distance championships two weeks ago in Milton Keynes."

Conditions were very different in the Buckinghamshire event with Vickery ending up in the medical tent after finishing suffering from hypothermia.

"In 10 years of racing these were the worst conditions I think I have ever experienced," she said.
