THREE students from the Mid Anglia School of Taekwon-do came back with medals from the UKTA English Taekwon-do championships, held in Crawley.
Newmarket 3rd degree black belt Eleanor Dobson, competing in the veterans’ black belt section, won silver in the female power test breaking focus boards with elbow strike and turning kick and bronze in the sparring loosing to Lorna Wright, the curren
t European champion champion.
Newmarket 2nd degree Sean Berry, competing in the junior black belt 13 -17 years section won double bronze in the pattern and sparring events.
Berry, who moved up a weight category this year, lost in the semi-final to Conner Prosser, the very experienced Welsh champion. The bout went into extra-time, with the four Judges, split two each at the end of two, two-minute rounds. After the half minute extra round, the decision went two for Prosser, one for Berry and one draw. It was possibly the bout of the tournament, with many feeling Berry had done enough to win it. It is hoped there will be a rematch at the Welsh championships in September.
Yellow belt green tag, Havilar Higgins from USAF Lakenheath, won silver in the junior under 13 years, over 155cm yellow belt sparring event.
The next competition for the school is the London ITF open at Guilford on July 19.
