A FINE all-round performance by captain Steve Lankester led Mildenhall to victory in his side's Two Counties Division Three match against Woolpit on Saturday.
Shepperson scored 42 runs as Mildenhall set their opponents a target of 224 and then took five wickets for 49 runs as Woolpit were bowled out 31 short of the required total.

Mildenhall batted first and were given a steady start by Alex Reynolds an
d Ziaf Kulasi before losing a flurry of wickets to slump to 59-4.

Captain Steve Lankester arrived at the wicket having been in good form recently and he dominated a partnership with Ben Shepperson as they added 64 before the skipper was dismissed lbw by Vosloo.

Lee Chipchase (14) gave good support to Shepperson as they put on a further 57 with Shepperson completing a half-century.

Mildenhall got past 200, losing a further three wickets quickly in the run chase. Number 11 Rhys Desborough hung around sensibly as Shepperson hit a further 21 and Mildenhall finished on 224 with Shepperson unbeaten on a fine 91.

Parker was the best of the Woolpit bowlers as he ended with 4-81.

In reply, Woolpit had early setbacks when Large retired with a damaged hand and Vosloo (2) edged a low leg-side chance that was well caught by the diving wicketkeeper Richard Thurston.

Whiteman and Collinge comfortably took the score past 50 and then 100, the former completing his 50 as the pair reached a century partnership.

Mildenhall were given a lifeline as Whiteman (50) lost concentration and was stumped by Thurston off Lankester, who struck again to bowl Collinge (41).

Chipchase joined in to take Parker's wicket and had Large lbw for six.
Tim Parker and Starling kept Woolpit's hopes alive with an aggressive partnership of 45 before the Thurston/Lankester connection had Starling (17) stumped with the score on 165.

Thurston claimed a third stumping off Lankester with the dismissal of Collins for five and the bowler picked up his fifth wicket when Steward fell to a catch in the deep by Andy Youngs.

Thurston completed a fine performance behind the stumps with some quick thinking when he effected the run out of Parker (38) by lobbing the ball over the batsman back to Mills at the bowler's end who broke the stumps leaving Parker stranded.

Mildenhall completed their overs leaving Woopit 31 runs short for the loss of nine wickets. Lankester finished a good all-round performance with 5-49 and Richard Thurston had a hand in five dismissals.

Eight Ash Green v Mildenhall

MILDENHALL'S third team were also on their travels with an away fixture at Eight Ash Green in a Two Counties Division Six game.

The home side batted first and posted 100 for the loss of two wickets before Martin Coverdale came on to produce a fine six over spell that saw him take five for 22.

His young team mate Adam White grabbed 4-34 as Eight Ash Green were dismissed for 161, Hammond top-scoring with 47.

Mildenhall won the game by four wickets as Chris Baird, Paul Thurston, Hein Muller and Eddie Finnis contributed with innings in the 20s and Jamie Allen, having his best knock of the season, was top scorer with 38.
