DULLINGHAM driver Karl Cattliff clinched the title in the Kumho Tyres BMW Championship 2008 in the final meeting of the season at Oulton Park on Saturday.
After 16 races at venues all over the country, Cattliff had built up a healthy lead in the championship and needed only to finish the first of Saturday's two races to be sure of the title.

An accident on the first circuit of the scheduled 10-lap opening race meant it was reduced to a five-lap sprint and Cattliff kept out of trouble to bring his E30 M3 car home in 11th place.

His decision to ensure victory rather than go for glory proved the right one in the second race when, after a clean start, he was hit by another vehicle and was soon at the back of the field and limped home after only five laps.

Although disappointed at failing to finish the final race of the series, Cattliff said he was delighted to have taken the prestigious title.

He said his car would come home for rebuilding ready for the 2009 season when he will be looking to defend his crown.
