GOLDIE Sayers beat European record-holder Christina Obergfoll and European silver medallist Steffi Nerius in the javelin competition at the Askina meeting in, Kassel, Germany.
The Ely-based UK record holder took an early lead with 63.92m and extended it to 63.96m in the fourth round to take gold by a 31cm margin from Obergfoll.

It was the second-longest throw of Sayers' career and a confidence boost with the Beijing Olympics only seven weeks away.

Four days later at the Grand Prix meeting in Ostrava, Czech Republic, Sayers threw 63.66m to take fourth place beind Obergfoll but ahead of Cuban world record holder Osleidys Menendez whose throw of 62.55 was well short of her 71.70m best.
