FOUR pupils from the King's School, Ely, have been formally admitted as members of Ely Cathedral's Girls' Choir.
Elizabeth Chesterman, Maxine Eddleston, Lara Gibson and Julia Makin were presented to the Dean, the Very Rev Dr Michael Chandler, by headteacher Sue Freestone on June 1.

The girls, aged between 13 and 18, were also welcomed as the newest members of the Cathedral Foundation.

Mrs Freestone, a musician, became the first female head at King's in 2004 and was one of the driving forces behind the establishment of the girls' choir in 2006.

The youngsters are all boarding pupils at King's senior school and sing Evensong regularly on Wednesdays and with the lay clerks on alternate Mondays.

Funding for their choral bursaries and all other associated costs will be provided by the school.
