SOHAM residents protesting against plans to make their street an access route for a new housing development have received support from their MP.
South East Cambridgeshire MP Jim Paice and Soham Town Council have backed a campaign by Guntons Close householders against a planning application for 13 houses on land in Station Road, which backs on to the cul-de-sac.

"It was a great relief to know we have got the backing of the town council – it is a help," said campaigner Jeanette Biggadike.

"We are now waiting for East Cambridgeshire Council to come up with their decision and we will still fight if we have to."

More than 100 residents have signed a petition on the grounds that the access road, which would cut through Guntons Close, would increase the amount of traffic on the estate.

A decision is expected by July.
