DOZENS of residents are set to fill a Soham pub on Saturday to play an annual darts tournament in memory of one of their friends.
Eighteen-year-old Paul Martin was killed in a motorbike accident in Soham in 1979 when he went to buy a Chinese takeaway following a night out with friends.
He was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, but his injuries were so severe that hi
s life support machine was turned off two weeks later.
As a special tribute, Paul's friends and family get together once a year and remember him by holding a darts tournament in a local pub.
This year will be the 29th tournament.
"It's a nice competition, which is open to anyone but really for his friends and family more than anything," said Danny Griggs, who has helped organise the event over the years.
"Most of Paul's friends go to the pub and some we only see on these two days for the tournament.
"We always used to play darts together so we thought we would have a competition every year for him."
The competition used to be played at the Cherry Tree, where Paul was a regular, but moved to the Carpenters Arms a few years ago.
The first half of the tournament is being held on Saturday at 8.30pm, with the second leg on Saturday, June 14.
