A RETIRED firefighter and his family are organising a charity event to raise funds for The East Anglian Air Ambulance.
Brian and Sue Chalklin, of Yew Trees, Soham, along with their three children, Victoria, Jason and James, will be holding a charity disco and hog roast at Soham Town Rangers football club on August 9.

There will also be an auction and prize draw, w
ith a number of prizes already donated by organisations.

These include a signed snooker cue from Steve Davis, a signed picture of Moto GP rider James Toseland, two tickets to Ipswich speedway and a voucher for 18 holes at Heyden Grange golf club, near Royston.

Mr Chalklin said: "We have about 16 or 17 prizes at the moment but have other lots in the pipeline.

"We have just sent a letter to Ferrari in Italy, so I'm hoping they might donate something."

A retired retained firefighter based at Swaffham Bulbeck, Mr Chalklin left the service in 1998.

During his 21 years as a firefighter, Mr and Mrs Chalklin, together with crew members, raised more than £20,000 for various charities.

Since then, he and his wife have organised annual events in aid of good causes, including the New York firefighters and their families after 9/11.

Just under £11,500 has been donated to the air ambulance following the previous three years' charity events.

Anyone who can help with donating an auction prize should contact Mr Chalklin on 01353 723045 or 07894 789467.
