THE "Golden Garter" saloon in the city of Deadwood was in trouble. The denizens of Deadwood exploded onto the stage to perform "The Deadwood Stage" while the "Golden Garter Band," led by Stephen Kenna, provided wonderfully professional support.
Calamity Jane, played by Shellie Baigent, introduced some of the locals, especially the saloon's owner, Henry Miller (Mickey Kowalczyk) and Wild Bill Hickock (James Mellor).

Once Henry found out that his star attraction, the glamorous Frances Fry
er, was in fact a song and dance man called Francis, Calamity resolved to travel to Chicago and entice back the object of Deadwood's desire, the lovely Adelaide Adams (Jessica Clegg).

Unfortunately, Calamity missed Miss. Adams and was duped into believing that her stage struck maid, Katie Brown (Hetti Wood), was the lady herself and brought her to the "Golden Garter."

Once Katie had confessed her deception she formed a friendship with Calamity and set about transforming Calamity's cabin and Calamity herself from tomboy to lady with "A Woman's Touch."

When the ladies attended the ball at Fort Scully Calamity realised that the object of her affections, Lieut. Danny Gilmartin played by Lee Sherwood, was not the man for her and pledged her "Secret Love" to Wild Bill.

In the meantime, there was a magical moment when the talented and melodic company performed "Black Hills of Dakota" by lantern light.
The story finished happily ever after with a triple wedding.

Calamity and Wild Bill, Katie and Lieut. Gilmartin and Francis with Susan Miller (Hannah Schunmann at her giggling best).

Sometimes in musicals allowances need to be made for the acting of singers or the singing of actors. On this occasion no allowances were asked or given, the whole cast were superb.

Purists weren't disappointed either, a stagecoach rolled across the stage twice.

Once again congratulations are due to everyone involved especially producers Dan Schumann and Angela Bocking.

Here's to the next production.
