DRAG bike racer Paul Rose, of Lester Piggott Way, Newmarket, died at St Nicholas' Hospice, Bury St Edmunds, on February 27 after a short illness. He was 58.
Born in Feltham, Middlesex, he worked as a chef in London, employed for a time at The Dorchester Hotel.

After this he worked as an MoT technician and became interested in drag bike racing in the early 1970s.

He went on to become one of the co
untry's best-known drag bike racers, enjoying a career spanning 15 years.

He retired from race riding in 1989 but was still a regular in pit lanes across the UK and Europe, where he had successfully competed, helping out and supporting other riders.

Mr Rose leaves a sister Linda, brother Brendan and step-children, Louise and Christopher.

His funeral took place at West Suffolk Crematorium, Risby, on March 11 and the Rev Graham Locking officiated.
