LOCAL sportsman Mark William Cornish died at his home at Westley Crossing, Six Mile Bottom, on March 26. He was 50 and had been ill for 16 months.
Born in Bishop's Stortford, he lived at Egerton Stud, Newmarket and attended Stetchworth Toll Primary and Newmarket Grammar School.
For the last 20 years, he was a postman delivering in Barrington and Cambridge.
He played football and cricket
for Stetchworth, Dullingham and Six Mile Bottom and was secretary of the Six Mile Bottom Football and Cricket Clubs for many years until his death.
He also played darts and had helped to raise a lot of money for charities, including Cancer UK, for which more than £1,000 has already been raised in his memory.
Mr Cornish is survived by his wife, Pauline, and leaves step-daughters Tina and Judith, his mother and father, Jan and Bill Cornish, sister Penny, and grandchildren Harry, Georgie, Millie and Fletcher Daniels, and Owen and Olivia Appleby.
His funeral took place at St Mary's Church, Dullingham, on April 4 and the Rev Pauline Reed officiated.
