JOANNE Monterey Walker, of Lakenheath Village Home and formerly of Manderston Road, Newmarket, died at West Suffolk Hospital, Bury St Edmunds, on March 28, following a short illness. She was 93.
Born in San Francisco, USA, Mrs Walker moved to Newmarket in 1959 after being educated in London.
A founder member of the League of Friends, she had been active in numerous social and charitable organisations in Newmarket and had also been a proli
fic contributor of articles over many years to the Newmarket Journal. She enjoyed travelling and dancing.
Mrs Walker leaves a daughter, Sheila, sons Stuart and Nigel, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Her funeral took place at St Mary's Church, Newmarket, and West Suffolk Crematorium, Risby, on April 7. Canon Geoffrey Smith officiated at the services.
