FORMER Exning shop assistant Jean Marie Pendlebury died at her home in Iceni Way in the village on May 14. She was 81 and had been ill for two years.
Born and living in Exning all her life, she attended the primary school and Newmarket Secondary School and initially worked as a cashier in Whipps.
She then spent 42 years as a shop assistant in Fuller's bakery in Exning.
From the age of 14 u
ntil she was in her mid 70s, she supported the Red Cross selling flags and also made tea at blood donor sessions at Newmarket Memorial Hall until she was forced to stop by illness.
Gardening, holidays and tea dances were among her favourite hobbies.
Mrs Pendlebury leaves a daughter, Linda, two granddaughters, Zara and Julie, and her partner, Trevor.
Her funeral took place at St Martin's Church, Exning, on May 23 and the Rev Joyce Williams conducted the service.
