FORMER Newmarket stall holder Iris Evelyn Brown, of School Road, Wood Ditton, died at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, on March 4 after a short illness. She was 85.
Born in Wood Ditton, she attended the village school and also lived in Saxon Street.
Primarily a mother and a housewife, she also went into partnership with her husband Ivor with a greengrocery stall on the market, which they had in Newmarket for
several years.
A member of Wood Ditton and Saxon Street WI for many years, she was also a member of Saxon Street Methodist Chapel for more than 50 years, where she took her four children to Sunday School.
She enjoyed cycling, knitting, reading and bowls, and was a member of the WI carpet bowls team.
Mrs Brown is survived by her husband and leaves two daughters, Angela and Helen, two sons, Alan and Garry, and seven grandchildren Vicki and David, Daniel, Luke and Jasmine, and Cristina and Jason.
Her funeral took place at Saxon Street Methodist Church, followed by burial at Wood Ditton, on March 16. The Rev Sheila MacInally conducted the service and Alison Daines, Mrs Brown's niece, was the organist.
