HERBERT Miller, who was known as Jack and formerly of Studlands Park, Newmarket, died at The Grange nursing home, Littleport, on April 18 after a long illness. He was 86.
Born in Brockford, near Stowmarket, he came to Newmarket and worked as a maintenance man at Egerton Stud for 33 years.
During the Second World War, he served with the Suffolk Regiment in Burma but was discharged.
Keen on watching all sports o
n television, he played darts for several teams in the Newmarket area.
He had also been a season ticket holder at Ipswich Town for many years and, when he was younger, played football for Wetheringsett, near Stowmarket.
Mr Miller is survived by his wife Kathleen, and leaves a daughter Diana, three grandchildren, Wendy, Trevor and Paul, and three great-grandchildren, Rhapsody, Harrison and Amy.
His funeral was held at West Suffolk Crematorium on April 25. The service was conducted by the Rev Graham Locking.
