THERE was a large congregation, many of them connected with the Royal British Legion, for the funeral of Geoffrey Arthur Hole at West Suffolk Crematorium, Risby, on May 15.
Mr Hole, known as Geoff, of Grebe Close, Mildenhall, died at St Nicholas' Hospice, Bury St Edmunds, on May 3. He was 75 and had been ill for two years.
Born in Wavertree, Liverpool, he was educated at the local Church of England School before emba
rking on a career in the Royal Air Force that spanned some 33 years and took him to many places in the world, notably Egypt.
Following his service career, he was a stalwart of the local Royal British Legion and supporter of the D Group of Suffolk.
He served as a standard bearer for more than 10 years, and as the chairman of the Mildenhall branch for seven years.
He did a lot of work for the annual Poppy Appeal and, for many years, drove for the Volunteer Bureau in Newmarket. He was a keen Liverpool Football Club supporter.
Three Legion standards preceded the cortege into the chapel: the D Group carried by Harold Williams, the Brandon branch by Mr G Johnson and the Mildenhall branch by his friend and neighbour Colin Plowright.
Many friends and neighbours were present to support Mr Hole's widow Jenny, son Andrew, daughter Alison and grandson, Alexander.
The service was conducted by the Rev Dan Mullin of Beck Row.
