FORMER Isleham Co-op manager, Edward George Woodbridge, died at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, on May 12. He was 81.
Born in Freckenham, Mr Woodbridge was educated at Freckenham Primary School and Mildenhall Secondary School.
During the Second World War, he was a Bevin Boy in the coalmines before serving in the RAF for two years.
In addition to being manager
at the Co-op, he was also a prominent figure in local council circles, serving as a member of Isleham Parish Council and East Cambridgeshire Council.
He had also been parish church treasurer and village hall chairman. In his spare time he enjoyed painting, dancing and fishing.
Mr Woodbridge is survived by his wife, Molly, and leaves a son, Nigel, and daughter, Julia, together with four grandchildren, Ian, Emma, Michelle and Joanna.
His funeral took place at St Andrew's Church, Isleham, on May 21, and the service was conducted by the Rev Kate Peacock.
