Workers at a Newmarket firm have raised hundreds of pounds for charity in memory of a former long-serving employee.

Staff at Exning Road LED lighting manufacturer Dialight collected £746 for St Nicholas Hospice Care after former sales customer service administrator Frances “Fran” Emms died in September last year, just two months after being diagnosed with cancer.

Fran, who was 42, spent three weeks at the hospice before moving to a nursing home. Dialight staff raised the funds through a Christmas prize draw, which made £409, donations in lieu of Christmas cards, which raised £87, £160 through another prize draw and £90 from a raffle.

Tracie Crascall, who worked with Fran, said: “As a firm we always fundraise throughout the year and then decide which charity to support. Everyone was in agreement that it would be fantastic to support the hospice, because Fran was such a big part of Dialight.”

Julian Purr, also of Dialight, said: “Fran would always make you laugh. It sounds like a cliché but it was true – she lit the room up.”

Liz Spillane, hospice corporate fundraiser, said: “Thank you to everyone at Dialight for thinking of us when deciding which charity to support. We remember Fran well and the many visitors she had during her time at the hospice.”
