The wheeled bin recycling service in East Cambridgeshire has been praised by a top government minister.
Eric Pickles, secretary of state for communities and local government, referred to the district’s achievements following its successful bid for £5 million of government cash to fund its new recycling service and retain weekly waste collections.
This has seen the district’s recycling rates rise from the 34 per cent just two years ago to projections of a rate of 54 per cent this year.
Cllr Anna Bailey, chairman of the council’s regulatory and support services committee, said: “It is really encouraging that the hard work and success of our waste and recycling service has been recognised at a national level. We have seen such a dramatic increase in our recycling levels in such a short time which is down to the easy to use system we have in place and the efforts of our residents who have embraced the new service with such enthusiasm.”
