When parents saw their aging village playground desperately needed updating they set abut raising the £50,000 needed to fund the facelift themselves.
That was two years ago and on Thursday, three months ahead of schedule the new play area in Barrow was officially opened.
Lisa Gleave, who led the Barrow Community Play Project said:“The feedback we are getting from parents and the children themselves is amazing.
“It is very rewarding to see the play area so busy even at this time of the year.”
To pay for the refurbishment, members of the project team, got funding from a range of sources including St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s rural initiative grant scheme, ward councillors’ locality budgets, the parish council, Havebury Housing, the Asda Foundation; the Suffolk Foundation; Suffolk County Council and The Ganzoni charitable trust. Mortimer and Gausden Estate Agents donated £100 for every property they sold in Barrow in 2014,and there were donations from Glasswells, Waitrose, F A Valiant & Sons and Extensia Properties Ltd.
