An 89-year-old woman is recovering after being attacked by three masked men at her home in Lakenheath yesterday (Monday, February 17).

The woman was in her living room, in Arrowhead Drive, between 7.45pm and 8.05pm, when she heard a loud bang at the front door.

She got up to see what was happening and saw three men running into her home. One struck her, knocking her to the floor, and demanded she hand over money.

The men, who were described as wearing dark clothing with their faces covered. searched the house before leaving via the back of the property.

The victim called 999 and was found by police with a cut to her head the size of a 50p piece. She was taken to West Suffolk Hospital, where she was kept in overnight.

This morning, police are continuing enquiries to trace those responsible and the property remains cordoned off as a forensic examination gets underway.

Officers are asking anyone who was in the area between 7.30pm and 8.30pm last night to come forward.

Police are particularly keen to trace the occupants of a black Vauxhall car, which was seen in the Back Lane area of Lakenheath at around 7.30pm.

The vehicle – possibly an Astra or similar – was believed to have three men inside and police are keen to speak to them.

Anyone who was there, or has any information about the incident or the offenders, should call Suffolk Police as soon as possible on 101.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers, anonymously if required, on 0800 555 111.
