Police have arrested two men in connection with an assault in Newmarket in the early hours of this morning.
Officers were called just before 1:20am after a man in his 40s was assaulted in Wellington Street close to St Mary’s Square.
The victim received injuries to his face and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Two members of the public who tried to intervene received minor injuries but did not need medical treatment.
A 21-year-old man and a 27-year-old man, both from Newmarket, were arrested on suspicion of assault and are currently in custody at Bury Police Investigation centre where they are being questioned.
Officers are asking anyone who may have seen the incident to call Suffolk Police on 101, quoting CAD reference number 10 of Thursday March 16.
