Miranda McCoy is the new community fundraiser for St Nicholas Hospice Care.

She takes over from Sue Long who retired at the end of last year.

Miranda, who comes from Newmarket, will be responsible for raising vital funds for the Bury St Edmunds hospice in the Newmarket, Mildenhall and Red Lodge areas as well as in Bury St Edmunds, Thetford and Brandon.

She comes to the role after working for the National Lottery for more than 15 years. “It will be a real change for me, “ said Miranda. “In my previous job I was giving money away now I have to work to bring it in.”

As a registered charity, the hospice, which this year marks its 30th anniversary, has to raise £11,000 every day through the generosity of local people and businesses.

“We need every penny,” said Miranda

The hospice looks after people with terminal and life shortening illnesses including cancer, multiple sclerosis and motor neurone disease but as Miranda has already discovered it remains a happy place thanks to the efforts of its staff and volunteers.

“Our volunteers are phenomenal,” she said, “and like everyone associated with the hospice they are passionate about the work that it does.” If you or your club or organisation would like to know more about the hospice contact Miranda on 01284 715567.
